Staying home is a great way to have fun, whether we choose the staycation on not. Here are some reasons why.

Get closer with your family

Staying close with the family we appreciate more what we have. We learn to cope with less pleasant aspects of each other and enjoy the better aspects. The things we never cared enough to know suddenly become important. We have an instinctive wish to hug our loved ones because we are intimate with them. Everybody has roles in a functioning family, and we finally have the chance to see how other family members fill in their roles. This means that we either appreciate their work or help them with their challenges.

Staying together should be taken as a gift not as a limitation.

Appreciate the weaker relationships

Not seeing further family, friends, coworkers, and acquaintances we appreciate them more. Skype is not the same as being in the same space as these people. We really start missing them.

When I was in high-school half of the students were girls, but when I went to study engineering the girls disappeared. It took me a year to get used to life without girls and truly appreciate their presence.

The same thing applies to relatives that suddenly move to a different country. We might be sick and tired of them, but once they move away we finally understand how meaningful they are in our lives.

Longing makes us enjoy the long-distance chats more.

Animals we love

Another different sort of relationships:  the animals around us. I have an old cat, who was born in my flat. She is lovely, and I love to groom her. Finally, I have more time to do that.

My kids realized another fantasy they had: we walk out the neighbor’s dog. This way we enjoy the best things in having a dog without the less pleasant part.

Health

Staying at home we still need to take care of the healthy lifestyle:

  1. Preserve reasonably repetitive daily routine
  2. Get enough sleep, probably with a power nap in the middle of the day
  3. Eat vegetables. Complement the diet with Omega 3 and other supplements
  4. Walk outdoors. Even 20 min up to 100 meters from the home counts.
  5. Meditate, breath or visualize.
  6. Do some physical activity as you find it possible. For example, you can do yoga or dance bachata with your spouse.

Looking good

At home, we spend less time on cosmetic effects but can spend more on nurturing, relaxation, hygiene. This is not my forte, so I think you can take the idea from here.

Enjoy luxury

Most of us have homes that are relatively small and humble.  Yet we probably have some pieces which are high-end. This can be a guitar, a stone, a wearable, whatever. For example, some people may collect artifacts like postal stamps. It is reasonable to enjoy our collections and feel the luxury of our hobbies. All the spendings that appeared to be excessive, suddenly feel well-placed.

Feel comfortable

The thing we have at home more than anywhere else is comfort. ENJOY it. As much as you can.
