Twelve choices that lead to your success

Our fellow superlearner Gill Umair completed the course and became a very successful life coach. Here he shares some more of his wisdom with us. I hope you will enjoy it, get motivated by it, and finish the superlearner course with flying colors as a result of it. If you already finished the course, I hope you will share your passion with others like Jonathan and Gill.

12 Choices that Lead to Your Success

What makes a person successful?

It’s all in the state of mind. Our mental state determines our action or choices. You must have noticed that if you are in a focused state of mind you get more done. Pay close attention to you state of mind and the drivers of your emotional state. Below is a list of my personal ‘State of Mind’ drivers in no particular order. I revisit it throughout the day (I have alarms set every 4 hour on my phone, I take a 5 minute break and reinstate the my mental markers)

1. No-Victim Attitude – Unexpected things always happen and one must know how to properly deal with them. Despite the obstacles, you must refuse to become the victim and instead, continue looking for solutions to the problems that arise.

2. Commitment – Stay on the course and remember why you’re there on the first place. Your ‘Why’ has to be bigger and stronger than any other emotion that you feel. Walk the talk and stay committed to your decisions. Surround yourself with passionate people who have similar goals and push you when you are down and you return the favor when it’s their turn.

3. Values – You cannot please everyone. Aristotelian logic implies that by doing one act you are not doing everything else. Every action brings to closer to something and moves you farther away from everything else. It is highly recommended to have friends with similar goals.

4. Integrity – ‘The true test of a man’s character is what he does when no one is watching’ John Wooden. Having integrity means doing the right thing and to choose integrity means doing the right thing even if no one’s watching.

5. Action – Taking control of your life will eventually lead you to success. Keep on learning and read a lot of books about people who have already accomplished what you want to achieve. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel. Once you know what to do. Act, Act, Act.

6. Persistence – Failure will always be a part of life. It is there for us to learn from our mistakes. When the going gets tough, don’t ever give up because successful people never quit.

7. Attitude– You can’t control your surroundings but you can control your attitude towards it.  A positive attitude will help you become successful.

8. Adversity – You can successfully overcome adversity by not wasting your energy on wonder what and why it went wrong. Let people help. Most of all, don’t panic and just keep moving forward.

9. Relationship – Our relationships are very important for they highly influence us. In order to succeed, one must build positive relationships with others and be willing to help and mentor them.

10. Criticism – Criticism can sometimes help and sometimes it cannot. They make us realize our shortcomings in order for us to improve. Consider constructive criticism as a gift and accept that criticism always comes with success.

11. Reality – The truth hurts because reality is the truth. Always be on the lookout for the truth and face reality. It may not be easy but it will help you succeed.

12. Legacy – Successful people always leave behind some kind of legacy. Give others the gift of knowledge for it will help them in their own roads to success.

  1. Congratulations Gill. Thanks for sharing your choices.
I’m on the journey and enjoying the process and the challenges. Challenges = discipline to do the exercises, feed back from the exercises, seeing it from a different perspective, etc..
Best wishes in the use of your acquired Superlearner values in the real world.
